PARKHILL CASE STUDY

An updated Event Management app to help with scheduling and organization of their annual University of Parkhill event

  • WHO IS PARKHILL?

Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, recently rebranded to Parkhill, is a multidisciplinary design firm passionate about building high-priority architecture and engineering projects across the Texas and New Mexico landscape. With over 75 years (and counting) in the industry, Parkhill has grown its firm to be a notable one-stop resource when it comes to fulfilling their client’s needs.

  • WHO IS PARKHILL?

With its robust catalog of disciplines, along with their workforce, growing year after year, Parkhill established the University of Parkhill in 2003 as a forward-thinking way to aid in the continuing education process of their employees. Their in-house design capabilities include:

    • Architecture
    • Civil Engineering
    • Interior Design
    • Landscape Architecture
    • MEP Engineering
    • Structural Engineering
    • Surveying
  • WHO IS PARKHILL?

As “a tremendous opportunity for employees not only to learn about the latest info pertinent to their profession but also to get to know their colleagues from each of Parkhill’s offices,” the University of Parkhill has become a staple in both the company as well as the West Texas community. However, even with a robust mantle of awards, and extensive portfolio that speaks to its undeniable high-caliber of excellence, Parkhill had one glaring crack in its proverbial foundation.

CHALLENGES

The former software used to organize the annual University of Parkhill event was a nightmare.

Since 2003 and every year thereafter, the University of Parkhill’s event was at the mercy of the same software, workflows, visuals, and information architecture that plagued them each year prior.

Essentially, the user experience left a LOT to be desired and the software was unable to grow and adapt with Parkhill’s needs.

A lack of automation and flexibility meant:

  • University of Parkhill courses were no longer accurate
  • Features that no longer existed were forced to remain in the database
  • Wasted time manually entering new and existing registrants

PARTNERSHIP

One element that sets Primitive apart is our prepared and intentional approach to all client projects. With nearly 10 years of experience as an agency, and over a century of collective experience within our teams, we understand the critical importance of balancing strategic preparation with artistic and detailed execution.

As a proud ally to all of our clients, one of Primitive’s top priorities is to ensure every partnership we engage in is a masterclass on not just feeling heard, but actually being heard.

That being said, designing and developing a product worthy of Parkhill’s success and happiness started by gathering a crew of craftsmen capable of the capacity and bandwidth needed to listen to Parkhill’s hardships, obstacles, needs, and desires.

RESEARCH

First and foremost, it was important to conduct a thorough analysis of Parkhill’s previous software in order to understand where their obstacles were arising and what experience was being derived from each unique pain point.

Once we had confidence in our knowledge of the hardships exhibited by their current processes, we researched event planning software in the current-day market, and submitted a proposal for a unique software that not only redesigned their workflows for a more turnkey and efficient process, but one set to resolve their organization and workflow issues.

After receiving approval from Parkhill stakeholders, the designing, developing, and craftsmanship, began.

THE OUTCOME

Although completed in February 2020, the global pandemic forced the University of Parkhill’s annual event to transition from in-person to online.

However, all stakeholders (CFO, HR Director, IT, and event management crew) involved found the new software to be effective, efficient, and time-saving.

Even amidst the change in venue, the University of Parkhill was now equipped to do what they were never capable of doing in years past.
